En 1934, sur la petite île d’Inishmaan, au large de l’Irlande, minuscule communauté aux habitants très pittoresques, vit Billy, un jeune handicapé rêveur, constamment victime d’insultes et de moqueries. Lorsqu’il apprend qu’un réalisateur de Hollywood vient tourner un film sur l’île voisine, il va tout faire pour saisir cette chance et enfin fuir sa vie triste et monotone.

Martin McDonagh est un dramaturge et scénariste irlandais. Il est l’auteur de plusieurs pièces jouées professionnellement à travers le monde, dont The Beauty Queen of Leenane et The Pillowman. Il a également signé des films tels que In Bruges et Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Billy le boiteux illustre son humour noir et sa verve dramatique caractéristiques.
